Nguyen Van Tho General Department of Viet Nam Customs

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho - Master of Law, has served as Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs since September 2021. Prior to this role, he had 16 years working at the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department in many senior positions which entitled him to direct command and participation in large-scaled investigation cases. With extensive experience in customs enforcement, he has many initiatives to crime combating, smuggling and trade frauds preventation with the aim of contribution to ensured national security and favorable business environment. As Director of the Personnel and Organization Deartment from 2018 to 2021, he focused on implementing streamlined and effective organizational solutions to meet requirements of reform and modernization, as well as human resource training for high-level leaderships. Currently, as the Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, he has overseen operations of international cooperation, customs control and supervision, post-clearance audit, organization and human resource. He is supportive for implementation of modern customs management means including reduced and simplified customs procedures, broad application of information technology on the way towards Digital Customs and Smart Customs. He also promotes post-clearance audit and encourages mutual recognition agreements on Authorized Economic Operators with other Customs authorities. He emboldens bilateral and multilateral customs cooperations, especially with the WCO.
