Joris Groeneveld Dutch Customs

In September 1976 I started my operational career as a junior customs officer in the Port of Rotterdam, responsible for supervising goods under Customs control, clearing of ships entering the port and applying customs seals on discharged containers. During my last operational years, from 1993 to 2001, I was member of a special team fighting against drugs, illegal cigarettes and illegal spirit smuggling. After internal education form 2001 – 2003 in 2004, I started working in the field of X-Ray scanning and Radiation detection. After learning the job of purchasing scanning and radiation detection equipment form the colleague who started X-Ray scanning within Dutch Customs in 2010, I took over his job and the responsibility of purchasing high quality scanning equipment for the Dutch Main ports of Rotterdam Port and Amsterdam Airport. Starting in 2010, I have been asked by WCO to do workshops in the various WCO regions trying to raise the knowledge within these regions of how to purchase high quality equipment. These workshops in all different parts of the world were also very educational for me to learn about other cultures. In 2019 I had the honor to be awarded with the WCO Certificate of Merit.
